City of Tacoma agrees to settle lawsuit with family of Manuel Ellis

Manuel Ellis died on March 3, 2020, in the custody of Tacoma police officers. The three officers were acquitted in December 2023.

TACOMA, Wash. — The City of Tacoma will pay the family of Manuel Ellis $6 million to settle a lawsuit over his 2020 death while in the custody of Tacoma police officers.

James Bible, the attorney for the Ellis family, said the settlement was reached on June 30. The City of Tacoma confirmed the settlement, but did not comment on any specifics of the agreement.
