South Park’s César Chávez Park will be renamed immediately as Seattle and King County respond to new abuse allegations.
KING COUNTY, Wash. — Seattle and King County have agreed to remove César Chávez’s name from a park in South Park, the Office of Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson said, after recently reported sexual abuse allegations against the labor leader.
The change takes effect immediately, according to the mayor’s office.
City and county leaders said they will work with community members and local organizations on an inclusive process to choose a new name for the park.
