Central Washington University student arrested after allegedly stealing, burning Pride flag

A Central Washington University student has been arrested following an anti-LGBTQ+ crime on campus.

According to a statement from university officials, the student “stole the LGBTQ+ rainbow Pride flag that is displayed at the Student Union and Recreation Center and set it afire while filming the incident on social media.”

The statement was issued Thursday afternoon on the university’s Twitter page and was signed by President Jim Wohlpart, Provost/Vice President for Academic and Student Life Michelle DenBeste and Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Delores Cleary. The administration described the incident as “an appalling act of hate against the LGBTQ+ community.”
