Bremerton family forced to leave subsidized housing, faces homelessness

A Bremerton mother thought she’d finally found stability after searching for years for affordable housing. Then, 39 days after moving in, everything fell apart.

BREMERTON, Wash. — Brittinaè Pangelinan thought she had finally found stability. After years of searching and more than a year on a waitlist, she and her three children moved into a Section 8 apartment in Bremerton this summer.

Thirty-nine days later, everything fell apart.

“There was a big old hole right here,” Pangelinan said, pointing to the ceiling in her now-empty two-story home owned by the Bremerton Housing Authority. “That’s when we noticed that there was black mold.”
