Belltown shooting surfaces frustration among residents with crime wave

According to the Seattle Police Department, overall crime in Belltown is up 32% this year, while shootings are up 42%.

SEATTLE — One day after an attempted robbery turned into a shooting in Belltown, people who live and work in the vibrant neighborhood say they’re fed up and concerned with crime and violence.

According to the Seattle Police Department, the neighborhood has seen a year-over-year 42 percent increase in shootings in 2025. When factoring in all recorded offenses, crime is up 32 percent. 

Belltown is the 8th most violent neighborhood in the city and ranks 10th in calls for shots fired, SPD says.
