A new lawsuit says Valve’s $2.49 loot box keys work like casino bets, with most players getting items worth pennies.
BELLEVUE, Wash. — A new class action lawsuit filed in federal court Monday alleges Bellevue-based Valve Corp. runs an illegal gambling system through paid loot boxes in some of its biggest games, including Counter-Strike, Dota 2 and Team Fortress 2, according to the complaint.
The lawsuit, filed by Alexander Flauto of Ohio and Jackson Meyer of Illinois, says they bought loot box keys from Valve, opened boxes in Counter-Strike games and received virtual items worth less than what they paid.
