Washington unveils the nation’s first police use-of-force database, in an effort to increase transparency across the state.
OLYMPIA, Wash — The state of Washington launched a first-of-its-kind public database Monday, aiming to provide unprecedented transparency into police use-of-force incidents across the state.
Starting Monday, all 300 law enforcement agencies in Washington are now legally required to report use-of-force data to the state each month. This includes incidents where force was used during traffic stops or any other police contact, and when officers deploy weapons such as guns, Tasers or pepper spray.
