AG Brown sues HUD, says new housing rules will increase homelessness

Washington receives about $120 million in Continuum of Care funding each year.

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington Attorney General Nick Brown is suing the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, alleging the agency is illegally imposing abrupt changes to a homelessness-response program that will limit housing access for tens of thousands of people nationwide.

A coalition of states, co-led by Brown, filed the lawsuit Tuesday, arguing HUD is unlawfully rewriting the rules for its Continuum of Care grant program by sharply limiting the share of funding that can go toward permanent housing and project renewals.
