Everett police are investigating what they describe as a “distraction theft,” a ploy in which suspects create a diversion to take jewelry or valuables.
EVERETT, Wash. — The theft lasted barely a minute. But for 75‑year‑old Gerald Daniel, it was the loss of something immeasurable — a gold chain commemorating 30 years of sobriety, and the life he had rebuilt.
Daniel had just finished shopping at a Walmart in Everett last week when a man in a large van pulled up, blocking his truck. Then a woman came from behind and offered Daniel a “gift” — a chain she placed around his neck.
