BOTHELL, Wash. — A day chasing fresh powder in Washington’s Cascade Mountains turned into a fight for survival for one skier buried beneath an avalanche for hours at Stevens Pass.
Michael Harris had taken the Double Diamond chairlift to ski the backside of the mountain for most of the day. He was making what he thought would be his final run of the day through Big Chief Bowl to get back to the resort.
