SEATTLE — A new play area is set to open at a popular Ballard park where a few years ago, it was the site of one of Seattle’s largest homeless encampments.
“Where it was, to where it is now, Is pretty incredible,” said Christopher Poetter, who works near the park.
Ballard Commons Park has come a long way since 2021. The park is in the heart of Ballard and after removal of the encampment, the park closed for 15 months.
Now, Seattle Parks and Rec is days away from opening a new nautical themed play area, costing taxpayers close to $1 million.
