78-year-old man recovering after hit-and-run during Seattle protest

SPD investigators do not believe the crash was intentional, but the incident has left members of the group a “bit on edge.”

SEATTLE — A 78-year-old man is recovering after someone knocked him to the ground with a car during a protest in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood on Saturday, Jan. 24.

Investigators do not believe the crash was intentional, but the Seattle Police Department (SPD) confirmed the driver did not stop. 

The event was the weekly “Defenders of Democracy” demonstration at Northwest Market Street and 22nd Avenue Northwest.
