There were about lightning strikes near and over the Cascades from Saturday into Sunday, according to the weather service.
SEATTLE — Lightning ignited a dozen new wildfires in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest over the weekend.
The fires, which span from areas near Leavenworth, Cle Elum and Winthrop, are all fairly small compared to the 14 large fires burning across the state. The 12 new fire starts amount to about 12.1 acres burned.
The largest new fire, the Dirty Face Fire, which has scorched 6.5 acres and is burning 18 miles northwest of Leavenworth, has 25 personnel assigned to it. A spokesperson with the U.S.
