Ohio State coach berates kicker because he’s a kicker

Ohio State cornerbacks coach and special teams coordinator Kerry Coombs didn’t wait too long to ramp up the intensity. During the Buckeyes’ first spring practice Tuesday, one of the team’s kickers asked for a waterbreak. Coombs took the opportunity to share his feelings on water breaks, kickers, and the importance of stretching.

“What do you need water for, Sunshine?” Coombs yelled. “We’re stretching! And you’re a kicker!”

Calling into question a player’s toughness? Check. Demoralizing player during mundane task? Got ’em. Using a player’s position in a derogatory fashion? Affirmative.

Coombs went for the football coach insult cycle by delivering a final death blow.

“Are you tired from stretching?” Coombs asked incredulously.

Not anymore, coach. Not anymore.
