RIVALS: Why is 76ers coach upset about Rondo injury?[2]

The 22nd overall pick in June’s draft, Melo is one of two first-round picks yet to play in a regular-season game. The other is the Houston Rockets’ Royce White, who has dealt with contractual tie-ups and team conflict because of his anxiety disorder.

Melo, a 7-0, 255-pound center, averaged 7.8 points and 5.8 rebounds a game last season as a sophomore for Syracuse, but he is known for his defensive prowess.

The Celtics announced Sunday that point guard Rajon Rondo will miss the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee[3].

Celtics coach Doc Rivers said that “no one’s role will change” with Rondo out.
