The temperatures are dropping, stores are filled with rich colors, and our closets are positively begging to be filled with the hottest pieces to carry us through the colder weather.

We rounded up some of our favorite fall trends, with inspiration for every age, budget, and body type, including some pieces for babes who are still sweating through Indian Summers. So get ready to swoon, because here is Seattle Metro’s Fall Fashion Roundup!

Having a Navy Moment

Nautical nods were all over the runways, from crisp white and navy stripes to more literal interpretations of peacoats and bell bottom jeans. To avoid looking like you’re getting your money’s worth from a sailor Halloween costume, try a few of these trends to embrace the clean, classic spirit of Nautical designs without going overboard:

-A tailored mid-length peacoat in a neutral color, like camel, caramel, or navy blue. The classic lines make a peacoat the perfect top for a work ensemble, as well as dress up jeans and a button down for a weekend brunch. They’re easy to layer over a sweater in cooler weather and will look fashionable for years to come. Check out vintage stores or estate sales for authentic peacoats and hunt down some new buttons at a fabric store to give it a more modern edge–we love the idea of mother of pearl or glass buttons for a feminine touch!

-High waisted denim jeans may seem like something from a bad 70s movie, but when paired with a beautiful rayon blouse or simple, structured t-shirt, they can elevate basics to subtle high fashion. Look for a paper-bag waist to show off a braided belt, or sleek dark denim for a little office drama. The best thing about high waisted pants is how figure-flattering they are! Every body type can find a style to suit their curves, so get out there and experiment.

-Bring the simple palette of surf and sky to your make-up routine by embracing navy liquid liner. Softer than black yet more dramatic than brown, navy makes all eye colors pop without adding fussy drama. A thin cat’s eye will look modern and fun, but still classy enough for impressing clients. Pair with a soft red lip stain, pale peach blush, and groomed brows for a simple everyday look, or crank up the volume by pairing with glossy pink lips for date night.

Bringing the 90s Back

30-somethings beware, our childhood clothes are hotter than ever! The nostalgia of the 90s isn’t dying anytime soon, so here are some ideas for embracing the trend without looking like your middle-school class picture. Think muted color palettes, boots, plaid, and top knots, paired with simple accessories to look as grown as you are.

-We love seeing chokers come back in style, but updated in rich metals instead of the velvet throwbacks. Seek out something silver, or burnished gold, to add a vintage-yet-luxurious vibe to sweaters, dresses, and collared blouses. Avoid hemp, velvet, or natural fabrics, since those can look a bit too junior for our tastes. We love the thin, stacked chokers dotting the runways, so don’t be afraid to layer!

-Doc Martins are classic boots for a reason: they never really go out of style. To keep them feeling fresh, pair with feminine maxi dresses, wide-legged trousers, or skinny jeans. Add a chunky knitted sweater or a draped cardigan, and you’re ready to run Empire Records. Look for neutral colors, like ebony, oxblood, or chocolate brown, all of which would be chic and comfortable layered with patterned tights.

-Remember how comfortable your favorite flannel button up was? Revive the trend, but elevate by layering over a structured tank top and a few statement bangles. Flannels are a great way to add a pop of color to tailored jeans or a skater dress and boots.

-Berry lips were a high school staple, and they are back and as bold as ever! Look for a shade complimentary to your skin tone and make them the center piece to your look–keep skin dewey and eyes bare, save a coat of mascara. You’ll look more va-va-voom than vamp!

Metallics, Sparkles, and All That Glitters

You don’t have to be hitting up the bright lights of Vegas to embrace a little sparkle in your wardrobe. Pull away from bedazzled holiday haute couture and think accent pieces, burnished metals, and subtle touches to brighten your closet.

-Glittery tights will add a kick of color to a little black dress and heels. Look for shades of bronze, emerald, or silver and keep the jewelry minimal to allow the leg ware to own the spotlight.

-Update your handbag to something in quilted leather with bold metallic accents. We love the look of a thick silver chain against a red bag, or gold hardware on a white clutch. It keeps your look on trend without being overwhelming.

-Go all out in a silver skirt! If you’re going to buy one bold, unapologetically trendy piece, seek out a shimmery maxi skirt. Pair with a cropped t-shirt for some brunch drama, or slip on a white button down and flats for a mid-workweek pick you up.
