WASTE MANAGEMENT PHOENIX OPEN

Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.

Course: TPC Scottsdale, Stadium Course (7,216 yards, par 71).

Purse: $6.2 million. Winner’s share: $1,116,000.

Television: Golf Channel (Thursday-Friday, 4-7 p.m., 7:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m.; Saturday-Sunday, 1-5 p.m., 6:30-11:30 p.m.) and NBC (Saturday-Sunday, 3-6 p.m.)

Last year: Kyle Stanley rebounded from a devastating loss at Torrey Pines with a victory. He beat Ben Crane by a stroke, overcoming an eight-stroke deficit with a final-round 65. The previous week in San Diego, Stanley made a triple-bogey 8 on the final hole and lost a playoff to Brandt Snedeker. Spencer Levin, six strokes ahead entering play Sunday at TPC Scottsdale, had a 75 to finish third, two strokes back.

Last week: Tiger Woods won the fog-delayed Farmers Insurance Open on Monday at Torrey Pines in San Diego, finishing with a four-stroke victory. Woods won the tournament for the seventh time, and set a PGA Tour record by winning at Torrey Pines for the eighth time, including his 2008 U.S. Open. Woods also has won seven times at Bay Hill and Firestone. He has 75 PGA Tour victories, seven behind the record held by Sam Snead.

Notes: Phil Mickelson is in the field along with Masters champion Bubba Watson and FedEx Cup winner Snedeker. Mickelson won the event in 1996 and 2005. In 2005, the former Arizona State star shot a 60 in the second round en route to a five-stroke victory. He tied for 51st at Torrey Pines after opening the season with a tie for 37th in the Humana Challenge. … An estimated 518,262 fans attended the tournament last year. The third-round drew a record 173,210. … The tour will be in California the next two weeks for the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and Northern Trust Open at Riviera.

EUROPEAN TOUR

DUBAI DESERT CLASSIC

Site: Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Schedule: Thursday-Sunday.

Course: Emirates Golf Club, Majlis Course (7,301 yards, par 72).

Purse: $2.5 million. Winner’s share: $415,640.

Television: Golf Channel (Thursday-Friday, 4:30-8:30 a.m., 12:30-3:30 p.m.; Saturday, 4 a.m.-noon; Sunday, midnight-3 a.m., 4 a.m.-noon; Monday, midnight-3 a.m.).

Last year: Spain’s Rafael Cabrera-Bello won his second European Tour title, beating Lee Westwood and Stephen Gallacher by a stroke.

Last week: England’s Chris Wood won the Qatar Masters for his first European Tour title, closing with an eagle for a one-stroke victory over Sergio Garcia and George Coetzee.

Notes: Westwood, No. 8 in the world ranking, is making his first start of the year. … Garcia also in the field along with Champions Tour player Mark O’Meara, the 2004 winner. … The tour will be in South Africa the next two weeks for the Joburg Open and Africa Open.

AUSTRALIAN LADIES PROFESIONAL GOLF/LADIES EUROPEAN TOUR

AUSTRALIAN LADIES MASTERS

Site: Gold Coast, Australia.

Schedule: Friday-Sunday.

Course: RACV Royal Pines Resort (6,647 yards, par 72).

Purse: $261,330. Winner’s share: $43,560.

Television: None.

Last year: Dutchwoman Christel Boeljon birdied the final hole for a one-stroke victory.

Last week: Sweden’s Caroline Hedwall won the Australian tour’s New South Wales Open, beating New Zealand amateur star Lydia Ko by two strokes.

Notes: Seven-time champion Karrie Webb tops the field along with fellow LPGA Tour players So Yeon Ryu, Jiyai Shin and Jessica Korda. Cheyenne Woods, Tiger Woods’ niece, also is in the field. … The tournament has been reduced from 72 to 54 holes. … The event opens the Ladies European Tour season. The European and Australian tours will team again next week for the New Zealand Women’s Open in Christchurch, then join the LPGA Tour the following week for the Women’s Australian Open at Royal Canberra.

CHAMPIONS TOUR

Next event: Allianz Championship, Feb. 8-10, The Old Course at Broken Sound, Boca Raton, Fla.

Last event: John Cook won the season-opening Mitsubishi Electric in Hawaii on Jan. 20, beating David Frost with a birdie on the second hole of a playoff.
