Tig Notaro Performed Topless a Week Before Her Seattle Show

The legend of Tig Notaro grows. The soft-spoken and hilarious standup comedian and cancer survivor (whom we chatted with in the November issue of Seattle Met[1]) became the talk of the New York Comedy Festival last Thursday when—after an odd audience response to a story about a TSA worker being confused by her gender as the result of her double mastectomy—she removed her jacket and performed the majority of her headlining set topless[2]. Notaro is a master of finding humor in uncomfortable truth (see: her cancer confessional performance/album Live) and she’ll bring that skill with her to the Neptune Theatre this Thursday, November 13.

We hope we’ll get to see her this week, but there’s a bit of doubt after Notaro had to cancel shows in Denver and Boston last weekend after being hospitalized for a “medical emergency.”[3] Though the promoter putting on the canceled Denver show said that “she will be alright,” a situation like that is always worrisome. Notaro has gone through enough medical and personal drama the past few years. She doesn’t deserve any more woes, just our laughs.

*UPDATE (Nov 12 at 5:30pm): Because Notaro is still recovering from the hospitalization, her show on November 13 has been rescheduled for January, 15, 2015. All tickets will be honored for the new date. Refunds available at point of purchase.*
