Sun, Sept 11Seattle Seahawks vs. Miami Dolphins^[1]The Seahawks kickoff the 2016 season with a home test against the Miami Dolphins. Russell Wilson and company look to continue last season’s late offensive surge, while the Legion of Boom looks to get CenturyLink rocking with its defensive fervor. With an incredibly favorable early season schedule (Dolphins, Rams, 49ers, Jets, and Falcons) before the first showdown with the Arizona Cardinals, the Hawks need to stay mentally sharp and not overlook their underdog opponents. THEATER

Sept 8–Oct 1Wedding Band: A Love/Hate Story in Black and White^[2]The Intiman Theatre Festival continues its focus on plays by black American women with a production of Alice Childress’s Wedding Band: A Love Hate Story In Black and White.  The play follows a black seamstress (Julia) and a white baker (Herman) that fall in love and decide they want to try and get married in the Jim Crow South of 1918. Sept 9–25Bad Apples^[3]The boldest offering on Seattle’s fall arts slate? How about a rock musical about the prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib? Bad Apples takes the true story of two female soldiers fighting for the love of a fellow soldier (who impregnated them both) by engaging in torture one-upmanship and turns it into a twisted, surreal look at sadism’s role in human nature. Do these horrors reflect on our collective psyche or were they really just the product of a few bad apples? ACT Theatre, $35–$45

Sept 9–Oct 2The Winter’s Tale^[4]Seattle Shakespeare kicks off its 2016–17 season with one of the Bard’s late works that splits the difference between drama and comedy. Jealous King Leontes wrongly accuses his wife of infidelity, leading to tragic deaths and the banishment of his infant daughter, Perdita. But things turn comedic in the latter acts with redemptive reunions and miracles, which should have extra flair, thanks to choreography by local performance artist Waxie Moon. Seattle Repertory Theatre, $31–$45

SPECIAL EVENTS

Sat, Sept 10Live Wire with Luke Burbank^[5]Anchored by the inviting personality of host (and former long-time Seattleite) Luke Burbank, the last three years have seen Portland-based Live Wire Radio become public radio fastest growing entertainment program. Recorded in front of a live audience, episodes feature a mix of interviews, standup, music, and storytelling for a creating a modern version of a variety show. Burbank returns to Seattle to put on a star-studded edition of Live Wire featuring The Oatmeal cartoonist Matthew Inman, brilliant comedian/man of a thousand characters Paul F. Thomkins, co-host of BuzzFeed’s Another Round podcast Heben Nigatu, and music from bluegrass trio the Devil Makes Three. Neptune Theatre, $19–$34

Sept 11–Oct 31Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals, 1933-1945^[6]Discrimination against the LGBTQ community is nothing new. But through documents and photograph, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum–produced touring exhibit Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals, 1933–1945 explores the Nazis’ particularly horrific systematic attacks against European gays, which resulted in the death of thousands. DANCE

Sept 9–17Whim W’Him Choreographic Shindig^[7]Whim W’Him opens its seventh season of offering fresh contemporary dance with its annual Choreographic Shindig. From a field of nearly 100 applicants, the company’s dancers selected Boise’s Lauren Edson, Chicago’s Joseph Hernandez, and New York duo Madboots to present new works showcasing their innovative ideas about movement. Erickson Theatre Off Broadway, $25–$50

FILM

Sept 9–19Cinerama 70mm Film Festival^[8]Film buffs love their 70mm movies. It’s fairly simple to see why: the larger format showcases crisper, brighter, more detailed images. The Cinerama 70mm Film Festival features 17 movies including classics like Lawrence of Arabia, Apocalypse Now, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Spartacus, The Sound of Music, and Patton, plus newer fare including Interstellar, The Master, and The Hateful Eight. After 2016 delivered one of the weakest summer movie seasons ever, it’ll be nice to see some actual quality on the big screen once again. Cinerama, $15

FOOD & DRINKS

Fri & Sat, Sept 9 & 10Cider Summit Seattle^[9]Washington Cider Week kicks off this week, and this weekend you can see yourself to a full-on cider festival in South Lake Union. Cider Summit NW will have over 150 ciders, both regional and international, plus plenty of bites from the likes of Whole Foods and Capitol Cider, and KEXP-provided tunes. Sat, Sept 10Autumn Moon Festival and Night Market^[10]In the International District, Vietnamese, Taiwanese, and Chinese cultures converge to celebrate autumn’s harvest moon. Per tradition, share sweet and savory mooncake with friends and family. And like night markets in Southeast Asia, this one will have street food vendors aplenty, live music and break dancing, plus an openair Asian market with handmade goods and freshly cut flowerst. Chinatown-International District, Free

Thru Oct 1 Introductions^[11]There’s nothing wrong with a little fresh artistic blood. Davidson Galleries’ Introductionsshowcases a host of printmakers from around the world that have never been seen on the galleries’ walls.
