Jafar Panahi has been tapped for the Asian Filmmaker of the Year award at the 30th Busan International Film Festival, cementing the Iranian director’s status as one of cinema’s most defiant voices.

His previous triumphs include Venice’s Golden Lion for “The Circle” in 2002 and Berlin’s Golden Bear for “Taxi” in 2015.
