Diana Rumrill, Bellevue blogger, builds fashion following

Diana Rumrill knows that, while hidden behind a suburban veil of brand-boasting chain stores, Bellevue’s high fashion scene is quickly developing into a thriving creative industry. Rumrill, who grew up surrounded by the pressure to spend hundreds of dollars on the same Seven brand jeans and Juicy Couture velour jackets as every other girl in Bellevue, hopes that her fashion blog, “Respectfully Yours” will show Eastsiders that there are “ways around spending money, and having the same fashion as others.”

Rumrill’s blog covers trends, as well as personal fashion opinions. Her posts are displayed in a fresh and youthful tone. Rather than reaching for the outrageous to draw in followers, Diana tends to keep her style classic and understated. In a recent post, Rumrill suggested that, “sometimes wearing a simple heels can speak louder than pumps with crazy patterns, bright colors, and unbelievable height.”

When asked if she attends fashion events in Bellevue, Rumrill responded, “Of course! I go to Bellevue Fashion Week,” held in downtown Bellevue every fall. Rumrill also makes an effort to step beyond the west coast, traveling to New York, the capitol of American style, once a year to check out boutiques, meet with photographers and network.

Rumrill feels that, while there are definitely strong fashion bloggers to follow in Seattle, they are more hidden and hard to discover than in more fashion focused cities. Her favorite bloggers to follow reside primarily in New York and Los Angeles, but she hopes that someday she will be able to build her blog up enough to the point that people will look at her blog as a solid representation of Seattle style.

The ideas for “Respectfully Yours” come from all over, but Diana attributes much of her creative fashion inspiration to her love of shoes. When choosing an outfit for the day, the artistic fashion blogger first turns to her collection of shoes, and then matches the rest of her outfit to that choice of footwear to build classic and stylish looks from the ground up.

Like any successful blog, “Respectfully Yours” is highly influenced by social media. Diana feels that she has gained the greatest amount of attention for the blog on using Instagram . “I am known through my Instagram” she says, “people who stumble upon my Instagram are more likely to visit my blog.”

Diana’s favorite part about running “Respectfully Yours” is “helping others by giving them useful information.” She views the blog as an online journal, where she is able to publically express how she feels to her readers. She advises girls who are interested in entering the fashion blogging scene to “say and do what makes you happy” and says that she finds her own personal happiness “through helping others.”

Diana plans to eventually secure a sponsorship from local clothing and accessories companies. She also hopes to begin selling a line of graphic tee’s she has designed, and is working towards gaining more social media followers to build a stronger online presence for the blog. Though her goals and dreams for the blog and her place in the Seattle fashion industry are driven and ambitious, Diana is not looking to step on anyone in standing the path of her success, and keeps her heart centered in the right place every time she works on the blog. In the end, she says, “I just want everyone to be able to lean on me if they ever need help in anything.”
