Con Pederson, ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ Special Effects Supervisor, Dies at 91

Con Pederson, one of four special effects supervisors on “2001: A Space Odyssey,” died Friday at the MPTF residence in Woodland Hills following complications from Alzheimer’s. He was 91. 

Pederson was a fixture in the field of science fiction filmmaking, particularly thanks to his involvement on Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” in 1968. Alongside three other special effects supervisors including Douglas Trumbull, Wally Veevers and Tom Howard, Pederson’s work led the director to his Oscar win for best visual effects in 1969.
