Disney’s live-action adaptation of “Lilo & Stitch” debuted at the top of the China box office over the May 23–25 weekend, pulling in RMB62.3 million ($8.7 million), according to Artisan Gateway.
The family title marked the strongest performance among a quiet slate, offering a rare Hollywood success in a year dominated by local productions.
After three weekends in the lead, “The Dumpling Queen” slipped to second with $3 million. The CMC Pictures title has now grossed $53.5 million. Directed by Andrew Lau and starring Ma Li, the rags-to-riches biopic continues to draw solid returns.
