China Box Office: Chen Kaige’s ‘The Volunteers: Peace at Last’ Leads Quiet Frame as ‘Row to Win’ Climbs to No. 2

At the China box office over Oct. 10–12, “The Volunteers: Peace at Last” led a subdued frame with RMB34.9 million ($4.8 million), according to consultancy Artisan Gateway.

The film, which commemorates the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army entering the Korean War, stars Wu Jing and Zhang Ziyi and marks the third chapter in Chen Kaige’s “The Volunteers” trilogy. The China Film Group title has reached $73.1 million since its launch. It released during China’s National Day holiday week, collections during which were not as robust in previous years.
