Comedian Amber Ruffin explained why she was axed from Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Tuesday night’s episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
Ruffin was originally slated to headline the WHC Dinner, joining a long line of comedians who traditionally help break the ice for an otherwise buttoned-up event. However, after a White House deputy chief of staff raised concerns about Ruffin’s critical comments about Donald Trump, the White House Correspondents’ Association removed her from the event in an effort to “ensure the focus is not on the politics of division,” according to the organization.
