Few things are as dependable in television as the annual onslaught of true-crime nightmares. Each year, a new crop of gruesome, devastating and, admit it, often fascinating documentaries about the dark side of the human condition rocket to the top of streaming charts and activate heretofore unknown fears in viewers who willingly subject themselves to each one.
