Internet sales taxes sailing through Senate, but House may be difficult

Sales taxes on Internet purchases grew one step closer to becoming a reality Monday evening when the Marketplace Fairness Act easily cleared a U.S. Senate procedural hurdle by a 74-20 margin, the Business Journals reported. Final passage is expected later this week. The legislation would allow states that simplify their sales tax systems to collect taxes on purchases made by their residents from online businesses based in other states.
