Dangerous Freeze Warning Issued for 8 Counties in Idaho as Temperatures Plummet

A Freeze Warning and a Frost Advisory take effect at 3 a.m. Monday across eastern Idaho, including Pocatello, Idaho Falls, Rexburg and the Magic Valley, with lows as cold as 30 degrees.

The National Weather Service in Pocatello issued both at 11:16 a.m. MDT Sunday. They run from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. MDT Monday.

Freeze Warning: Magic Valley and Lava Beds

Sub-freezing lows as low as 30 degrees are expected.

Areas: the Eastern Magic Valley, Shoshone/Lava Beds, and Arco/Mud Lake Desert.

Communities: Burley, Heyburn, Rupert, Shoshone, Oakley, Carey, Richfield, Mud Lake, INL and Craters of the Moon National Monument.

Freezing temperatures could kill crops and sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Frost Advisory: Snake River Plain

Lows as low as 33 degrees will result in frost.

Areas: the Upper and Lower Snake River Plain.

Communities: Pocatello, Idaho Falls, Rexburg, Blackfoot, American Falls, Fort Hall, Shelley and St. Anthony.

Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered.

Forecast Uncertainty

Cloud cover and rain will make the overnight forecast tricky, and forecasters say confidence is lower than they would like.

Some spots in the warning zones will likely stay above freezing. In the advisory zones, some spots could briefly drop below freezing if skies clear enough.
