This Miami’s Kosher Restaurant Earns a Michelin Star in the 2026 Florida Guide

Mutra, a small Israeli restaurant tucked into a North Miami shopping plaza, has earned One Michelin Star — and in doing so made history as the first strictly kosher restaurant ever to win the distinction.

A world first for kosher dining

When the 2026 Michelin Guide Florida was revealed, Mutra was one of only two restaurants in the state to earn a new star. Its win resonated worldwide: it is the first fully kosher restaurant anywhere to receive a Michelin Star, and according to reporting on the announcement, the first restaurant on the planet to be awarded a new 2026 Michelin Star.

For years, the open question in the kosher food world was whether a fully certified kosher kitchen could break through at the highest levels of fine dining. Mutra, open barely 15 months, answered it. “This moment is bigger than a restaurant,” the team wrote on social media as they celebrated with golden confetti.

Jerusalem on a North Miami counter

Mutra is the work of Israeli-born chef Raz Shabtai, whose career runs from Jerusalem and Tel Aviv through New York and Brooklyn before landing in South Florida. The restaurant — named for his grandmother, with mutra translating to “a rain of blessings” in Hebrew — draws on the immigrant food traditions of Jerusalem, weaving in influences from North Africa, Eastern Europe and the Levant.

Michelin’s inspectors praised the intimate chef’s-counter experience and a hyperlocal menu that rotates so often dishes sell out. Standouts flagged in the guide include a show-stopping plate of beets in a pool of ajo blanco topped with beetroot sorbet, a signature lamb kebab with smoked aubergine cream and tomato oil, and a creamy muhallebi pudding to finish.

A rising reputation

The star caps a fast ascent. In late 2025, Mutra became the only kosher restaurant named to Resy’s inaugural Resy 100 list, a national ranking of the restaurants shaping American dining. The Michelin nod cements it alongside Florida’s most celebrated fine-dining rooms.

Part of a statewide milestone

Mutra’s recognition came as Michelin expanded its Florida guide to cover the entire state for the first time, sending inspectors from the Panhandle to Key West. The full 2026 selection spans about 200 restaurants across 41 cuisine types, with 26 carrying Stars — among them Miami’s two-starred L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon. New Recommended additions in the Miami area included Bistro Ocho, Mano Libera and Coral Gables’ Elyu Omakase.

For Miami — already one of the country’s hottest dining cities — Mutra’s barrier-breaking star adds a new layer to its reputation, and gives kosher diners worldwide a landmark destination in a North Miami strip mall.
