Truck strikes power lines in Port Orchard, causing power outage

A truck hit power lines in Port Orchard, causing power outages and road closures, says the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.

KITSAP COUNTY, Wash. — A truck carrying containers struck overhead power lines in Port Orchard Friday, causing widespread outages and road closures in the area, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the intersection of Bethel Burley Road and Lider Road, near Kira, after the boom of the truck hit the utility lines, officials said.

Puget Sound Energy reported that about 2,950 customers lost electricity as a result of the incident. As of 4 p.m., only 149 were still without power.

Authorities closed roads near the scene while crews responded to the damaged lines. Drivers traveling on Bethel Burley Road were advised to use alternate routes at Southeast Deep Lake Road via Southeast Lider Road and Southeast Bielmeier Road.

No additional information about injuries or when power would be restored was immediately available.
