Over 300 Washington residents are credited with helping 1,000 patients with their organ donations after death.
OLYMPIA, Wash. — The state of Washington honored 365 families with “Gift of Life” awards Thursday, recognizing relatives whose loved ones donated organs following their deaths — gifts that extended or saved the lives of more than 1,000 Washingtonians last year, according to Santohk Gill, CEO of Life Center Northwest.
The annual ceremony, held on the first Thursday of every April, took place at the state Capitol, where relatives from roughly one-third of the Washingtonians whose organs were donated last year.
