King County executive establishes the ‘Breaking the Cycle Initiative’ to improve housing

​Under the new order, Zahilay’s office intends to open 500 shelter units in 500 days.

KING COUNTY, Wash — King County Executive Girmay Zahilay signed an executive order Tuesday that is intended to improve housing and shelter options while better integrating behavioral health services.

The order establishes the “Breaking the Cycle Initiative,” which is focused on expanding affordable housing and shelter options, improving coordination between housing, health and the legal system, and exploring revenue sources to develop new housing.
