New Seattle light rail connection draws steady crowds on second day

The party is over, but the trains are still full. Seattle’s floating bridge light rail enters its second day as novelty becomes normal.

SEATTLE — A day after thousands celebrated the opening of Seattle’s newest light rail extension, riders continued to pack trains Sunday despite rainy weather, transit officials said.

The East Link extension, which opened Saturday, is the world’s first light rail line to cross a floating bridge. It connects Seattle to Bellevue and Redmond across Lake Washington, expanding transit access to the Eastside.
