A new volunteer-based team is seeking out information on what bees exist in Washington, revealing hundreds of species in the state.
SEATTLE —
Spring has always been the season of pollinators, but in Washington state, it’s also becoming the season of discovery. A growing army of volunteers is fanning out across the state to document bee species that have not been recorded in generations and in some cases, have never been confirmed in Washington at all.
The results have stunned even the scientists leading the effort.
