SEATTLE, Wash. — Washington state Gov. Bob Ferguson signed two immigration-related bills into law Thursday, including a measure prohibiting federal officers from wearing masks or facial coverings during operations in the state.
The mask ban includes exceptions for extreme weather or safety conditions and comes in response to a growing trend of federal immigration agents concealing their identities while making arrests across Washington and the country.
A separate bill signed into law bars members of the public from impersonating law enforcement using fake uniforms or vehicle markings.
