Trump-backed elections bill could reshape Washington’s vote-by-mail system, Hobbs says

Voters would be required to include a photocopy of identification with their ballot under the proposed law, according to the Washington state secretary.

OLYMPIA, Wash. — A proposal backed by President Donald Trump would significantly change how elections are conducted in Washington, Secretary of State Steve Hobbs said Thursday.

The legislation, known as the SAVE America Act, was taken up by the Senate this week. It would require voters to provide documentary proof of citizenship when registering and to present approved identification when voting.
