Five years later, organizers say little has changed for Asian massage workers facing stereotypes, licensing barriers and fear of police raids.
SEATTLE — Dozens gathered in Seattle’s Chinatown Sunday morning to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Atlanta spa shootings that killed eight people, including six women of Asian descent, while launching a new campaign to improve safety for massage workers.
The vigil in Hing Hay Park marked the March 16, 2021 attack in which a gunman targeted three Asian massage businesses in Atlanta. Organizers said the event aimed to honor the victims while addressing ongoing safety concerns for massage workers in immigrant communities.
