Washington becomes second state to ban retail sale of nitrous oxide

The bill now heads to Gov. Bob Ferguson’s desk after passing the state legislature.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Washington state is poised to become the second state in the nation to ban the retail sale of nitrous oxide, after the state legislature passed House Bill 2532. The bill now heads to the governor’s desk for approval.

The legislation would ban the sale of nitrous oxide in convenience stores, smoke shops and gas stations — locations where large, brightly-colored tanks of the gas, often sold in candy-like flavors, have become increasingly common.
