Everett pushes to criminalize exposing children to fentanyl as babies overdose, deaths mount

EVERETT, Wash. — Since 2019, at least 32 children have suffered drug overdoses in Everett — several of them fatal. Now the city is pushing to pass an ordinance making it illegal to expose minors to dangerous drugs like fentanyl, but the proposal is drawing pushback.

Washington state law currently only prohibits exposing children to meth. In recent years, lawmakers have pushed to expand that to drugs like fentanyl, where as little as 2 milligrams can be fatal —
