Lakewood man charged with attempted murder after motel stabbing leaves woman with 20 puncture wounds

Witnesses told police a man chased a woman through a motel parking lot, knocked her down and stabbed her.

LAKEWOOD, Wash. — A Lakewood man is facing two attempted murder charges after prosecutors say he stabbed and assaulted a woman outside a Days Inn, leaving her with about 20 puncture wounds and internal injuries, according to Pierce County court records.

Pierce County prosecutors charged Derrick Chapman, 43, with attempted murder in connection with the March 6 attack in the parking lot of the Days Inn at 9325 South Tacoma Way.
