Coast Guard crew member dies after ‘tragic incident’ while rescuing stroke victim

A Coast Guard rescue swimmer died a week after being injured during a medical evacuation off Cape Flattery, Washington.

WASHINGTON — A Coast Guard rescue swimmer who was put on life support after a “tragic incident” while responding to a medical evacuation has died.

The Cowlitz County Search and Rescue said Tyler Jaggers died a week after the incident that injured him.

“Tyler has passed from injuries sustained during an attempted medical evacuation of a stroke victim by helicopter from a cargo ship over 125 miles off Cape Flattery, WA on February 27, 2026,” Cowlitz County Search and Rescue posted on social media.
