Gov. Ferguson on income tax proposal: ‘Not close’ to what he wants

Feguson said he’s optimistic legislators can reach deal this year, but that changes need to be made.

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington Governor Bob Ferguson is not yet ready to sign a proposed millionaire income tax bill passed by the state Senate, but he’s optimistic it will happen.

Tuesday he told reporters the legislation must include significantly more tax relief for families and small businesses before he will put pen to paper.

On Monday, the state Senate passed the bill to impose a 9.9% income tax on Washington households earning more than one million dollars annually.
