Urgent Avalanche Warning Issued for 4 Counties in Montana

An Avalanche Warning has been issued for parts of northwestern Montana, with forecasters describing conditions as very dangerous and potentially life-threatening in backcountry terrain.

The National Weather Service, relaying information from the Flathead Avalanche Center, announced early Tuesday that a Backcountry Avalanche Warning is in effect from 7:00 a.m. MST Tuesday through 6:00 a.m. MST Wednesday for zones MTZ001 and MTZ002.

The warning covers slopes above 5,000 feet in the Whitefish, Swan, and Flathead ranges, as well as the Lake McDonald and Marias Pass areas of Glacier National Park.
