Snohomish County is cracking down on unpermitted food stands with a new law making violations a misdemeanor offense punishable by fines and jail time.
EVERETT, Wash. — Operating an unpermitted food stand in Snohomish County is now a jailable offense as officials crack down on vendors who skip permits and sidestep safety regulations.
The new law, passed unanimously by the Snohomish County Council, makes running an illegal food operation a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail, a $5,000 fine and confiscation of equipment. The ordinance comes as complaints about unpermitted stands surged from 16 in 2022 to 203 in 2025.
