Seattle plans new barriers to limit vehicle traffic at Pike Place Market

SEATTLE — Vehicle access to Pike Place Market could soon look very different as Seattle prepares for an influx of visitors during the FIFA World Cup, with city officials planning to install new temporary barriers to further limit passenger cars in the area.

In a briefing to the Pike Place Market Historical Commission, the Seattle Department of Transportation said the city plans to install additional temporary protective barriers as soon as April as part of a broader strategy to limit passenger vehicle access in the market.
