A major winter storm is impacting large portions of West Virginia, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue Winter Storm Warnings for at least 16 counties across the state.
Forecasters warn that heavy snowfall, powerful wind gusts, and dangerously low visibility will create hazardous travel conditions through early Saturday morning.
According to the NWS Charleston, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. EST Saturday, February 7, for counties including Upshur, Barbour, Raleigh, Fayette, Nicholas, Webster, Pocahontas, and Randolph. Cities and communities under the warning include Beckley, Buckhannon, Philippi, Summersville, Richwood, Oak Hill, Fayetteville, Snowshoe, Elkins, and Webster Springs, among others.
