Washington advocates rally against proposed child care budget cuts

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Nearly 100 child care providers and parents rallied at the Washington State Capitol on Tuesday to oppose proposed budget cuts they warn could devastate the state’s child care system and force thousands of families to lose access to subsidized care.

The demonstrations come as lawmakers grapple with a more than $2 billion budget shortfall. Governor Ferguson’s proposed budget includes nearly $800 million in reductions.
