Mayor Katie Wilson moves to bar ICE from using city property, among other actions

The executive order signed by Mayor Wilson prohibits federal immigrations officials from using city-owned or controlled property for enforcement activities.

SEATTLE — Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson announced steps to prepare the city for a potential increase in federal immigration enforcement.

In a news release, Wilson said she will sign an executive order prohibiting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal immigration officials from using city-owned or city-controlled property for enforcement activities. This includes parks, parking lots, plazas, garages, Seattle Center and other locations. 

She also encouraged Seattle Public Schools and other entities to take similar steps following enhanced immigration enforcement in Minneapolis.
