Maple Valley double-murder case moves to trial as co-defendant pleads guilty to lesser charge

MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. — A Maple Valley double-murder case returned to a King County courtroom this week as opening statements began in the trial of Brandon Gerner, while a co-defendant who prosecutors say helped conceal the killings has already pleaded guilty.

Gerner is on trial in King County Superior Court facing charges including first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree animal cruelty and unlawful possession of a firearm.
