Success, concern surround Flock camera debate

Senate Bill 6002 would limit Flock camera use to felonies and missing persons cases after federal immigration agents accessed Lynnwood’s system without consent.

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — They are billed as a game changer in the fight against crime, but many believe they’re also ripe for abuse and need strict regulation. Flock cameras have become the latest flashpoint at the intersection of privacy, immigration policy and public safety.

In Lynnwood, Flock cameras are currently shut down after it was discovered federal immigration agents accessed them without the city’s consent. Still, the city’s police chief believes the cameras should be turned back on — but with guardrails.
